Agriculture Act 1967 (C. 22)
To establish a Meat Livestock Commission and to make provisions for the livestock and livestock product industries; to authorise payment of subsidies in respect of cows with calves and to make grants for agricultural land improvements, plant, machinery and certain vehicles.  

Functions exercisable solely by WAG or the National Assembly for Wales.

The following Ministerial functions are exercisable solely by the Welsh Ministers in relation to Wales namely:

Part I: Meat and Livestock Commission.

  • section 4: Power to delegate to the Meat and Livestock Commission the power to make orders under legislation relating to the Markets and Fairs (Weighing of battle) Acts.
  • section 6: Power to require the Commission to mark meat carcases.
  • section 8: Making of schemes requiring information to be given about meat prices.
  • section 9: Making of schemes for the better organisation and development of livestock and livestock produce industry.
  • section 15: Contributions to expenses of Commission ęs expences.

Part II: Farm Structures.

  • section 26 and 28: Grants and loans for farm amalgamations and boundary adjustments.
  • section 27: Grants for individuals relinquishing occupation of non-commercial agricultural land.
  • section 33: Grants for improvements and water supplies.
  • section 37: Recovery of grants paid under Part II.

Part III: Hill land.

  • section 45: Power to establish a Rural Development Board to assist in the development of hills and uplands.
  • sections 46 and 47: Power to approve BoardĘs proposals, including giving grants.
  • section 49: Appeal to Minister against BoardĘs refusal to agree to the transfer of land.
  • section 50-55: Miscellaneous Ministerial powers with regard to Boards, including appeals against BoardĘs refusal to allow afforestation (section 52).

Part IV: Cooperative Activities.

  • sections 58-61: Powers of Ministers in relation to the Central Council for Agricultural and Horticultural Cooperation.

Part V : Miscellaneous.

  • section 65: Grants for keeping farm business records.
