Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act 1953 (C. 49)
To provide for the preservation of buildings of outstanding or historic interest.  

Functions exercisable solely by WAG or the National Assembly for Wales.

All the Ministerial functions under this Act are exercisable solely by the Welsh Ministers in relation to Wales namely:
  • section 3: Power of Historic Buildings Council for Wales to advise the Minister.
  • sections 4 and 4A: Power to give and to recover grants for preservation of historic buildings, their contents and adjoining land.
  • section 5: Power to acquire historic buildings, contents and adjoining land.
  • section 6: Power to give grants to local authorities and the National Trust for the acquisition of historic buildings.
  • section 8: Power to give endowments for historic buildings.
