Employment Act 1989 (C. 38) OPSI - Employment Act 1989 (C. 38)
To implement the EU Directive on the principle of equal treatment for men and women as regards access to employment training and promotion; and to amend prohibitions and requirements relating to the employment of young persons and other categories of employees.  

Functions exercisable solely by WAG or the National Assembly for Wales.

The only Ministerial functions exercisable solely by the Welsh Ministers in relation to Wales under this Act are:
  • section 2: power of Secretary of State to repeal statutory provisions requiring discrimination as respects employment or training.
  • section 5: power of Secretary of State regarding exemption for discrimination.
  • section 6: power of Secretary of State to exempt particular acts of discrimination required by or under statute.
  • section 8: power of Secretary of State to exempt discrimination.
  • section 28: power of Secretary of State to make an order.
