Race Relations Act 1976 (C. 74)

To make provisions with respect to discrimination on racial grounds and relations between people of different racial groups.  

Functions exercisable solely by WAG or the National Assembly for Wales.

The only ministerial functions exercisable solely by the Welsh Ministers in relation to Wales under this Act are:
  • section 19A(3): Discrimination by Planning Authorities. Definition of planning functions as the functions under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, The Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and the Planning (Hazardous Substances) Act 1990, an other functions as may be prescribed; and includes, in relation to an urban development corporation, planning functions under Part XVI ( Urban Development) of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980, and in relation to an enterprise zone authority or body invited to prepare an enterprise zone scheme, functions under Part XVIII ( Enterprise zone) of that Act.
  • section 76: (government appointments outside the employment field) The Welsh Ministers, First Minister or Counsel General may make a recommendation, or give an approval regarding government appointments outside the employment field and also sets limitations on these powers.
