To make provision for inspectors of schools and inspections carried out by them.  

Functions exercisable solely by WAG or the National Assembly for Wales.

The following Ministerial functions contained in this Act are exercisable solely by the Welsh Ministers in relation to Wales namely:REPEALED BY THE EDUCATION ACT 2005

the Chief Inspector for Wales may resign by giving written notice to the Secretary of State.

Power to request the Chief Inspector for Wales for advice and to inspect and report on specified schools.

Power to assign further functions to the Chief Inspector.

Duty to notice the receipt of a notice under subsection 2.

Power to direct period within which an authority shall prepare a statement setting out the action proposed to be undertaken following a school inspection report.

Power to make regulations for monitoring special measures and further inspections to be undertaken in respect of schools where an inspection shows that such measures are necessary to be undertaken.

Provision by regulations for monitoring a school which is the subject of a special measures inspection report.

Provision by regulations for the making of tenders by education authorities for the provision of a school inspection service for their schools.

Functions of the Secretary of State in relation to the creation and dissolution and the giving of directions and the making of regulations in relation to education associations to conduct schools for whom special measures are considered necessary following the report of an inspection of a school.

Secretary of State determines remuneration of Chief Inspector.

Appeal Tribunals under section 9 of the Act: Appeals in relation to refusal or imposition of conditions on registration of persons as inspectors in schools including nursery schools.

Appointment of 2 members of the Tribunal.

Power by regulations to provide for the procedure of tribunals and making of appeals.
