Civic Amenities Act 1967 (C. 69)
To further protect and improve buildings of architectural or historic interest and their character; for preserving and planting trees; and for disposing of disused vehicles, equipment and other rubbish in an orderly way.  

Functions exercisable solely by WAG or the National Assembly for Wales.

All the ministerial functions under this Act are exercisable solely by the Welsh Ministers in relation to Wales namely:

Part I - Preservation of Areas and Buildings of Architectural or Historic Interest

  • section 1(2): power to direct local planning authorities as to the exercise of their functions
  • section 1(4): power to receive notice from local planning authorities of the designation of any Conservation Area, or of any variation or cancellation of such designations.
  • section 4: power to determine the terms of repayment of and payments of interest on loans for the preservation of historic buildings etc
  • section 7(2): power to make or confirm compulsory purchase orders when satisfied that it is expedient to do so.
  • section 11: duty to keep copies of lists and amendments for public inspection.

Part II - Preservation and Planting of Trees

  • section 14(3): power to hear appeals from a person who has been served notice under section 14.

Part III - Disposal of Abandoned Vehicles and Other Refuse

  • section 18(5): power to compel a local authority to carry out its duty.
  • section 18(6): power to bring section 18(1) into force after one year.
  • section 20(6), (8) and (9): duties under section 18(5)
  • section 20(8): power to effect subsection (8)
  • section 20(9): power to bring sections 21 and 22 into force.
  • section 21(3): power to require a council to inform persons when vehicle is disposed of.
  • section 24(1): power to authorise the acquisition of land compulsorily
  • section 25: power to alter the provisions of certain sections of Acts that relate to the removal and disposal of abandoned vehicles.

Part IV - General

  • section 28(1): power to authorise people in writing to enter land under certain circumstances.
