Local Authority and Social Services Act 1970 (c.42)

To make provision for the organisation management and administration of local authority social services.  

Functions exercisable solely by WAG or the National Assembly for Wales.

All the Ministerial functions under this Act are exercisable solely by the Welsh Ministers in relation to Wales namely:
  • section 7: Power to exercise general guidance as to the exercise of local authority social service functions.
  • section 7A: Power to issue directions as to the exercise of local authority social services functions.
  • section 7C: Power to hold inquiries into the exercise by local authorities of any of their social services functions.
  • section 7D: Default powers as respects local authority services functions.
  • section 7E: Power to give grants to local authorities towards expenses incurred in relation to persons suffering from illnesses or in making payments, as directed by the Secretary of State to voluntary organisations carrying for persons suffering from illnesses related to alcohol or drugs.
